Berberis monticola Harber

Yunnan: Xianggelila (Zhongdian) Xian. Sichuan-Yunnan border area. South side of Zhongdian Daxue Shan. Grazed meadows, Rhododendron thickets, limestone and shale scree slopes and outcropping ledges. 28°34'24"N, 99°48'42"E; 4280-4600 m.
Stunted and often sprawling shrubs, to 1.25 m; young stems pinkish; leaves abaxially glaucous, papillose, adaxially mid green; fruit 1-3, solitary or fascicled, green turning red; seeds 3 or 4. Initially identified as Berberis muliensis Ahrendt.
