Xizang (Tibet): Mangkang (Markam) Xian. Between Mangkang and the Jinsha Jiang on highway 318, along the Xi Qu (Xi River). Cut over remnant Picea forest on slope with scattered shrubs of Betula, Caragana, Cotoneaster and Rosa. 29°44'28"N, 98°40'51"E; 3600-3650 m.
In open areas. Multiple stems from woody base; petals pale yellow; older flowers turning yellowish brown.
